Tonight's beer: DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon

Musky-floral tropical and citrus bitterness opens with an explosion of grapefruit, oranges, lemons, pineapples, melons; pine and grass woven in. Some bready sweetness, threaded with toast and caramel, struggles to emerge through the middle; but it's quickly pounded into submission. Bitter, then a little sweet, then bitter and dry out to the horizon.

Maybe a little lighter than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A little gritty somehow; scrubbing and almost scouring but eventually almost refreshing. Slight hints of alcohol burn: nothing out of the way for 9.2% ABV.

A delicious Double IPA, explosively intense and amazingly complex; unbalanced as hell and just a little sloppy around the edges, almost entirely without subtlety—about right for the style, really. Quite drinkable, considering its booze content and the hopping, but I think it's better as a sipping beer. Impressive, and pretty local to boot.
