Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Red Sky at Night
Tons of pale fruit: mostly dried—apples, pears, golden raisins—but bananas, nectarines, some tropical impressions. Bread, some toast and caramel; hints of honey and treacle. Dries out quickly and thoroughly, revealing grassy-floral bitterness; some spicy-piney-citrussy notes.
Maybe a little lighter than medium-bodied, softly carbonated. some soft syrupy stickiness, a little chewiness. Gently drying, very refreshing.
A delicious beer, if a little straightforward for me to call it a good saison; it comes across to me more like a good American-made Belgian-style IPA. Plenty intense and pretty complex, niftily balanced and well-integrated. Drinkable as hell. One of my favorite beers (whatever the style is) from one of my favorite local breweries.
