Southern Tier 2XRye

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XRye

Southern Tier 2XRye

Nicely breaded toasty-caramel sweetness and grassy-floral bitterness. Some piney and citrussy undertones, and some distinct peppery tartness on the back end. Dries out quickly and thoroughly.

A bit lighter than medium-bodied, bright and lively carbonation. A little bready/syrupy stickiness. Finishes clean and briskly cleansing; drying and massively refreshing. Zero hint of the 8.1% ABV.

A delicious and almost alarmingly drinkable Rye IPA, much more balanced than what seems to be the norm—the rye is present as a malt character, not just more bitterness—but plenty intense and complex; marvelously well-integrated. I know I'm pretty thoroughly in the tank for Southern  Tier, but this is really an excellent beer.
