Unibroue La Fin du Monde

Tonight's beer: Unibroue La Fin du Monde

Unibroue La Fin du Monde

Pale bread, spiked with bright spice and flowers and grass. Pale dried/candied fruits—muscadines, pears, apples, nectarines, et al—through the middle. Bitterness reappears into the end, as the beer dries out quickly and nearly completely. Maybe the odd squirt of lemon.

Light-bodied, decent fin carbonation. Drying, mostly clean and cleansing; amazingly refreshing. Remarkably little alcohol presence for 9% ABV. Smooth on the finish.

A delicious, dangerously drinkable. Intense and complex, with loads of spice and house yeast character. Nicely balanced and integrated, supple and subtle and graceful. Unibroue's beers aren't to everyone's tastes, but I haven't had one I'd rate as less than excellent. This is one of my favorites.
