Dogfish Head Punkin

Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Punkin

Dogfish Head Punkin

Darkly sweet—brown sugar, molasses, maple—and richly spiced with cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg (and probably others). Toast and bread and slightly-nutty pumpkins all over the middle. Earth and grass and peat and maybe something like tea mostly around the finish. Sweet and spicy to start, then dry with hints of earthy funk. Vague traces of bourbon and rum.

Kinda thick, adequately carbonated, bready-chewy and syrupy-sticky. Gently drying with just a touch of boozy warmth. A bit soft around the edges.

A delicious pumpkin pie of a beer. Nicely intense and complex, beautifully well-integrated, if it comes down a bit heavily on the sweet side. Impressively drinkable. One of my favorite Dogfish Head beers, and one of my favorite pumpkin beers; a marvelous glass of autumn, on a night that smacks of winter.
