Tonight's beer: Great Divide Oatmeal Yeti
Lots of chocolate, densely threaded with dried fruits—primarily the raisins on the label. Deeper layers of coffee, ash, smoke, dark bread, caramel, molasses. Vanilla and butter—bourbon, basically—in the background, with possibilities of brandy and rum. Richly and massively bittersweet from the start almost to the finish; it dies out some, into the aftertaste.
Thick and dense, almost like liquid neutronium; carbonation is adequate but seems slow, somehow. Sticky and chewy, roasty-drying, just a little slick and oily. Nowhere near as much booze in the feel as in the flavor, which is unusual enough to be striking.
Oh. My. Gawd. This is a beautifully imposing (and imposingly beautiful) beer. Almost overpowering in its intensity and complexity, but gloriously well-integrated and surprisingly well-balanced. Stupidly drinkable for a slabbishly thick, 9.5% ABV beer. Carries all that alcohol with amazing grace and poise. Delicious from the first "Wow!" to the last "All gone."
