Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Hazel Brown
Lots of nutty-toffee-toasty presence to start, amply balanced by earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness. Threads of vanilla and maybe smoke, some hints of spice in the background. Starts a bit sweet but eventually dries out pretty thoroughly.
Just about in the middle of medium-bodied, a little sticky. Nicely carbonated, softly drying, eventually kinda refreshing. Some tendencies toward chewiness around the middle.
Pretty much what the label says: a brown ale, laden with nutty-toffee overtones. Reasonably complex and intense, decently balanced and well-integrated. Quite drinkable—probably more so for someone more into nuts (especially hazelnuts) than I am; that's more about me than the beer, though. Almost certainly exactly what the brewers wanted and intended. Plenty nice enough.
