Tonight's beer: The Bruery Autumn Maple
Loads of dark sweetness—molasses and maple, threaded densely with caramel and toast—on a deeply yammy bready base. Dark spirits—rum, brandy, bourbon—arise into the middle. Some dark baking spices—cloves, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla—appear around the finish, with a touch of earthy-peaty bitterness.
Surprisingly light-bodied, decently carbonated. Softly glowing with boozy warmth. A little bit drying, struggling toward refreshing. A trace of syrupy stickiness at the finish.
Yum! A beautifully autumnal beer, not pumpkinny but still int he vicinity of a pumpkin pie (because sweet potatoes are like that)/ Massively intense and complex, marvelously well-integrated (if seriously very much on the sweet side). This is one of the beers I'm happy to pick up every year, this time of year. The only thing like a complaint I have with it is that I wish The Brewery's beers weren't so expensive, at least around here.
