Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas The Greater Pumpkin
Lots going on, a complex tapestry: pumpkins, caramel, toast, cinnamon and cloves and maybe nutmeg and other spices; vanilla and butter bourbonish threads arise around the middle and hang around a while, as earth and peat lurk in the background. Starts pretty-much sweet, evolves to finish kinda dry.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, a bit pillowy-soft and bready-chewy, gently-carbonated. Surprisingly subtle alcohol presence for 10% ABV—a mild prickle and glow. Some small amount of stickiness, eventually a little drying.
Yum! Surprisingly supple and subtle and graceful for such a big barrel-aged beer. Intense and complex as hell, nicely integrated and reasonable well-balanced ( a bit on the sweet side, even for a pumpkin beer). Almost scarily drinkable, but big enough to be a sipping beer, excellent for a chilly November evening.
