Tonight's beer: Reel Ales Swordfish
Bright grapefruity citrus, hints of lemons and oranges; pine, with grass and flowers woven in. Dark toast flecked with chocolate a sturdy counterpoint. Flashes of caramel and dark dried fruits, a light sprinkling of spice. Mostly bitter evolves to mostly dry.
Medium-bodied, lightly carbonated, kinda soft, chewy, sticky.. Drying and briskly refreshing. Scrubbing, bordering on scouring. Finish is pleasantly lingering.
This is an impressive Black IPA, big enough to pack some niftily intense and complex flavor, well-integrated and about as balanced as the style gets. Marvelously drinkable; practically a textbook example of the style. A delicious beer, and one I'd love to drink more of.
