Uinta (Crooked Line) Oaked Jack

Tonight's beer: Uinta (Crooked Line) Oaked Jack

Uinta (Crooked Line) Oaked Jack

Lots of pumpkins and molasses/brown sugar/maple syrup, flecked with caramel and bread. Vanilla and spiced (mostly cloves and cinnamon) arise around the middle. Hints of earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness on the long finish. Dries out a little, eventually, but not much.

Thick, bready, heavy, lightly-carbonated. Plenty of glowing boozy warmth, but no real burn or prickle. Syrupy-sticky and coating. Lightly drying, but more filling and satisfying than anything else.

A delicious pumpkin beer, with some gentle booze character entirely appropriate for being oak-aged and 10.31% ABV. I think it's the biggest pumpkin beer we've had this year—it's practically big enough to treat like a barleywine. Intense and complex as hell; probably too sweet to call it balanced, but niftily well-integrated. Smooth and surprisingly supple and subtle and almost-graceful for such a big beer. Roughly a perfect way to wrap up Thanksgiving.
