Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Fireside Chat
Nuts and toffee smeared over deeply-toasted dark bread, some earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness trailing behind. Dried fruits lurking around the middle—cherries, plums, dates, raisins, figs—and a touch of woody dark spice, mainly nutmeg with hints of allspice, cloves, and cinnamon. A soft puff of smoke on the finish, as the beer dries out slowly but thoroughly.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, decently-carbonated, some bready chewiness and some syrupy stickiness, mostly on the finish. Barely a trace of boozy warmth, mildly filling and lightly drying and refreshing.
A nicely made winter warmer, laden with lots of gawds-only-know-what in the way of adjuncts: spices, fruits, nuts, et al. Complex as hell, and surprisingly intense; impressively well-balanced and -integrated. Amazingly drinkable, with a pretty stiff alcohol contend (7.9% ABV) carried gracefully and subtly. One of the seasonal releases that is explicitly different year-to-year; this isn't exactly the way I remember this from when I had it before, but it's just as delicious.
