Tonight's beer: Brewer's Art La Pétroleuse
Earthy, slightly-funky opening, with grass, flowers, maybe some spice and dried herbs. Pale bread, lightly toasted, drizzled with caramel. A smattering of dried/candied pale fruits—mostly apples, pears, white grapes. Never really sweet, dries out completely, into the mostly-bready aftertaste.
Thickish and kinda bready, well-carbonated. Chewy and a little syrupy-sticky. Drying and refreshing; cleansing and scrubbing. Just a minimal hint of boozy warmth and prickle.
A delicious and very drinkable take on a bier de garde: intense and complex as heck, balanced and superbly integrated. Supple and subtle. Another impressive beer from Brewer's Art—a local-ish brewer that I've never known to put a foot badly wrong. Obviously a beer that would play magnificently well with food.
