Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2013)
Lots of dark chocolate: the good stuff, laden with cacao. Some deep and intense coffee/espresso blended in; burnt toast around the edges with a hint of caramel. Dark dried/candied/burnt fruits, maybe a touch of molasses; some earth, grass, peat, and a hint of smoke. Over the course of a nearly-eternal finish does dry out, on a vaguely vanilla-ish sparkle.
Thick, dense, almost oily. Lots of syrupy stickiness, and some chewiness. Some decent carbonation. Gradually, lots of roasty-drying through the long and coating finish. A gentle boozy prickle, scarily subtle for 10% ABV.
A delicious beer that was my first world-class Big Stout (and might even have been my first world-class big beer of any kind), lo these many moons ago. A gloriously intense and complex beer, marvelously well-integrated and surprisingly well-balanced. Amazingly drinkable. Supple and graceful for such a big beer. Something I'll likely continue to buy every year for as long as I'm able. Also, it ages well for at least two years (as long as I have the space to keep it).
