Tonight's beer: Harpoon Saison Various
Pale bread and dried/candied pears and apples; grassy bright-floral bitterness threaded amply in. Hints of caramel and mostly-bright spices. Strong impressions of citrus around the edges. Traces of earth and funk in the background. Bitter, then momentarily a little sweet, then *arid*.
Light-bodied, copiously carbonated. Scrubbing and cleansing, drying and immensely refreshing. Short sharp finish, with a distinctly mineral-ish prickle.
A very nice saison, impressively unified for being a blend of four different threads. Drying and very drinkable. Intense and suitably complex, nicely balanced and integrated. Definitely made by a brewery with a hell of a clue, and obviously a beer that would play nicely with food, probably just about anything. I keep thinking I should try more of Harpoon's beers, and I keep forgetting that when I'm off buying.
