Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale
Juicy and explosively bitter: pine and citrus threaded with flowers and grass; subtle impressions of bright herbs like cilantro (and maybe basil or something) and of musky tropical fruits. A brief moment around the middle, when some bready caramel sweetness struggles to the surface, then the beer dries out sharply and thoroughly.
Just a bit on the light side of medium-bodied, and well-carbonated. Some resinous stickiness, and a bit of chewiness. The long finish is extraordinarily drying and refreshing.
A delicious IPA—something of an unusual choice for a winter seasonal, but Sierra Nevada has earned a ton or two of trust, and I'm not going to complain about anything. Deliberately tipped strongly to the bitter side, but complexly so, and plenty intense for a moderately strong beer. Yet another beer I look for every year, this time of year. Sierra Nevada (obviously) can do whatever they want, and I'll buy it and drink it.
