Tonight's beer: Southern TIer Warlock
Dark roasts—chocolate and coffee—with baking spices like cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg in copious amounts. Toasted dark bread and rich caramel mostly in the middle, with pumpkins and nuts well-represented. Earthy-grassy bitterness arises toward the end, with grace notes of peat and smoke. Vanilla lurks in the distance.
Medium-bodied—lighter than i'd expect for a biggish stout, especially a pumpkin stout—and decently carbonated. Some chewiness and stickinesss, gradually drying, eventually mustering something like refreshing. Basically n hint of the 8.6% ABV.
Yum! A delicious big pumpkin stout. Intense and beautifully complex; nicely balanced and amazingly well-integrated. Astonishingly drinkable: graceful, supple, and subtle. A glorious seasonal offering from Southern Tier; I'm a hopeless fanboy, I know, but this is a marvelous addition to the autumn.
