Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin

Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin

Lots of cardamom and nutmeg, and some healthy dollops of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Pumpkins, bread, toast, caramel tightly woven into a solid background presence. Earthy-grassy-peaty bitterness emerges mostly on the finish into the aftertaste. Surprising almost-fruity impressions around the edges, but the beer dries out quickly and nearly completely.

Thick, chewy, sticky; lightly-carbonated. Long finish, softly drying—at least a little. Filling and satisfying, with maybe the vaguest impression of booze.

A very nice pumpkin beer, laden with mostly-expected spices but packing some surprises—the cardamom, at least, is idiosyncratic, I think. Intense and complex, marvelously well-integrated if (obviously intentionally) nothing, really, like balanced. Drinkable for days, but big enough to treat as a sipping beer. A beautiful pumpkin cookie of a beer.
