Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Back in Black
Complex bitterness opens things: flowers, pine, citrus, grass; chocolate and coffee looming right behind. Caramel and fruity sweetness around the middle, momentarily; then, dries out quickly and completely. Chocolate especially present in the aftertaste.
Pretty much dead-center medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A bit of bready chewiness, transitions to something more like syrupy stickiness into and beyond the finish. Kinda scrubbing, very refreshing.
A very nice Black IPA, not strong enough as to be overwhelming. Impressively complex and intense, nicely balanced, very well integrated. Drinkable as hell. Plays very well with red meat (especially pot roast), capable of wrestling with potent and/or complex spices. Great for those times you want a table-strength Black IPA. Delicious.
