Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment/Elysian He Said Baltic Porter
Deeply toasty and almost nutty foundation, with lots of caramel woven in. Pumpkin and baking spices through the middle. Earthy-grassy bitterness on the edges, with a possibility of smoke on the horizon. Mostly dry from start to finish.
Thick and bready, decently carbonated. A bit coating and imposingly roasty-dry. Maybe a little soft boozy warmth, but nothing out of the way for 8.2% ABV. Filling and satisfying.
A nicely pumpknny dark-roasty beer, perfect for a chilly evening about to get as cold as it gets around here (something of a theme for this winter, across the US and Canada, I think). Complex as heck and impressively intense, niftily balanced and well-integrated. Surprisingly drinkable, though it's a big enough beer to sip and savor. Definitely delicious.
