Tonight's beer: Anchor Our Special Ale (2013)
Bright flowery-woody spices—ginger, juniper, cardamom, nutmeg—enveloped in darkish bread, toast, caramel. Some chocolate through the middle into the finish. Grassy-earthy bitterness around the edges. Starts a little sweet, dries out completely if gradually.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. A bit of syrupy stickiness, softly drying. Surprisingly refreshing.
A delicious beer, appropriate for celebrating whatever winter holiday/s you celebrate. Impressively intense for 5.5% ABV, and very complex; nicely integrated and exactly as dominated by the spices as the brewers intended. Drinkable as heck, if you like spiced beers (which I do). Christmas spirit in a bottle.
