Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2011)
Lots of dark chocolate, unsweetened, backed by strong black coffee bordering on espresso. Some odd, slight sour touches around the middle, and dark fruits (some burnt, some not) and caramel lurking around the edges.Dim and distant impressions of peat, smoke, ash, as the beer dries out into the aftertaste.
Thick, slick, oily and viscous and heavy. Some stickiness and chewiness lingers practically indefinitely. Gently drying, softly warming, with remarkably little int eh way of alcohol impressions.
A massive beer, with some odd sourness around the fringes that fades as the glass warms. I have a sneaking suspicion this is as far as I'd want to age these bottles, which is a surprise, since I normally keep a couple of this around for two years. Still, this beer is stupidly intense and complex, more poised than balanced and eventually nicely integrated. Delicious and drinkable. This persists in being one of my favorite beers.
