Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Yule Tide
An interesting and complex weave of dark spirits (especially rum), toast, caramel, ginger and maybe other spices; threads of nuts and dried fruits scattered throughout. Grassy-floral bitterness arises toward the back end, with some earthy flecks and hints of citrus and pine. Starts distinctly sweet, but dries out smoothly and mostly completely.
A little on the thick side, more creamy than bready. A little syrupy stickiness but eventually clean, all told. Drying and kinda refreshing. A touch of boozy prickle, about right for 9% ABV.
A very nice beer, comes across a little like egg nog (entirely in a good way: I like egg nog). Plenty intense and impressively complex, kinda rummy but nicely integrated and poised if not quite balanced. Remarkably drinkable—it's hard to keep just sipping this. Huzzah for a local brewery that keeps hitting home runs. I'm glad I have another of these.
