Tonight's beer: Samuel Adams Cherry Chocolate Bock
Tart cherries, dark chocolate. Dark bread and toffee lurking in the background. Dim hints of earthy-grassy bitternesss around the fringes. Starts darkly bittersweet, dries out maybe a little, eventually.
Thick, viscous, syrupy-sticky, mostly smooth, softly carbonated. A hit of bready chewiness around the middle. Tilts a bit to refreshing, but remains mostly cloying.
This is a sweet beer. Not "sweet" as in "excellent" or "awesome"; "sweet" as in "sugary and cloying." Cherries and chocolate smeared over dark bread. Pretty intense, but straightforward; kinda one-sided, and—surprisingly for a Samuel Adams beer—almost sloppy. Drinkable-ish, more like a cola than a beer. It's been a while since I've had a beer this disappointing.
