Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar
Pine and citrus—mostly grapefruit, some lime and orange—backed by flowers and grass and musky tropical flecks dancing some sort of conga line around the perimeter: richly and explosively bitter. Caramel and bread and hints of toast make for balance and poise and counterpoint. Wraps up complexly bitter and dry, after a brief sweet moment around the middle.
Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Drying almost to the point of blistering; scrubbing and scouring. Refreshing and amazingly drinkable. Eventually cleansing; surprisingly clean; just a touch of resin and syrupy on the back end.
This is one of my favorite beers, period. Astonishingly complex, impressively intense; amazingly well balanced and integrated. A pretty wild ride, but not out of control or at all sloppy. IT's pretty simple, really: When I see this beer I buy this beer. Yum and yum and O my gawds yum.
