Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Heavy Storm
Earthy-grassy bitterness bursts in, riding a wave of dark and deep caramel—verging on toffee—flecked with dried fruits, edges of toast and flickers of ash. Dries out quickly and pretty much completely.
Medium-bodied and decently carbonated, maybe a bit bready-chewy. A little stickiness around the edges, gently drying into the finish and beyond. Eventually, cleansing and refreshing.
A delicious, richly balanced beer, one of my favorites among the winter seasonals (which is a wonderful time for seasonal beers). Plenty and surprisingly complex, but accessible and well-integrated. Beautiful in the glass, to boot. Drinkable for days. Big-time local-winner beer.
