Tonight's beer: Westbrook IPA
Bitterness sizzles from the beginning: pine, grass, citrus (orange, grapefruit, maybe some lime and lemon), some flowers and musk. A bit of bread and caramel, threads of fruity-juicy sweetness around the middle. Dries out sharply and severely, with bitterness reasserting itself around the end.
Juicy and pulpy, almost gritty; a bit lighter than medium-bodied with decent carbonation. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness, but otherwise pretty clean, and almost refreshing. Scrubbing into the aftertaste.
After nearly two weeks without beer, I was strongly craving hops; this beer scratched that itch, big time. Not exactly (or at all) balanced, but crazily intense and surprisingly complex; holds together nicely, not at all sloppy: clearly exactly what the brewers intended. Drinkable as heck, and delicious from start to finish. Highly recommended, for those as like this sort of thing (and you know who you are).
