Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Fireside Chat
Lots of caramel, toast, dark bread; hints of roasts—chocolate and coffee, maybe a little toffee. Earthy-grassy bitterness rises around the middle. Some dried/candied dark fruits around the edges: cherries, plums, grapes, figs. Threads of dark and woody baking spice.
A bit soft and thick, bready chewy but decently carbonated. A little syrupy stickiness but surprisingly drying and almost refreshing. For almost 8% ABV, awfully subtle about the alcohol.
A delicious beer. The spicing has stepped back some over the few months we've had this sitting around, but this is still a nifty Winter Warmer. Intense and complex, integrated and well-balanced. Supple and surprisingly graceful. Maybe not exactly what the brewers intended (it may have evolved more than they would prefer) but it's still pretty awesome.
