Tonight's beer: Anchor Our Special Ale (2013)
An interesting tightly-tangle weave of caramel-toasty sweetness, bright citrus-spicy bitterness; chocolate and earth and ash and peat in the distance. I get juniper/pine/spruce, ginger, coriander, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg in the spices. Complexly bittersweet, then thoroughly dry.
Kinda bready-chewy, maybe a little thicker than medium-bodied, decently-carbonated. A bit of stickiness on the back end, but mostly (surprisingly) clean, cleansing, drying, refreshing.
Never the same, year-to-year, and always delicious.Complex and intense, balanced and integrated. Much lighter-bodied and brighter-tasting than the dark color might lead one to expect. Drinkable as heck. Yet another delightful version of Xmas in a glass.
