Tonight's beer: Anderson Valley Winter Solstice
Lots of toasty-bready caramel, some dried/candied dark fruits—plums, maybe figs and/or dark grapes. Baking spices and hints of vanilla woven densely in. Flickers of earthy bitterness arise around the finish.
A bit of the thickly bready-chewy side, softly carbonated. Some syrupy stickiness around the edges. A little bit coating. Maybe a hint of boozy glow. A very substantial beer.
A truly delicious spiced winter warmer, one of my long-time favorites in the style. Plenty of flavor, here: intense and complex, and nicely balanced and well-integrated; drinkable as hell. Hard to find a better beer with which to celebrate the rapidly approaching Vernal Equinox.
