Tonight's beer: Avery Twenty
Lots of floral-grassy bitterness, threaded with citrus—mostly orange and lime, some grapefruit—and flecked with pine. There's some bread, and some pale caramel/honey in the background. Those males are probably more forward than design spec: this beer is nearly a year old. Bitter as heck to start, then a touch of bready and fruity sweetness, then extensively dry.
Pretty much medium-bodied, kinda softly carbonated. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness, but impressively drying and refreshing. Roughly no hint of the 9.8% ABV. Finishes pretty sharp and pretty clean.
A pretty delicious Double IPA, especially considering this is almost a year old. Unlike other overly-old Double IPAs I've encountered, this actually tastes like a Double IPA (as opposed to a thin Barleywine). Plenty intense and complex, nicely balanced and well-integrated. I *do* wish I'd been able to find this beer sooner, but it's excellent even now.
