Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Bourbon-Barrel Quad
Lots of caramel and cherries, spiked liberally with vanilla and smoke and oak. Spice and dark dried/candied fruits (raisins, plums, figs) lurk in the background. Dim flickering threads of earth, peat, toffee, nuts, grass, leather, tobacco. Soft whispers of dark spirits—mostly whiskey but also rum and brandy.
Surprisingly light-bodied, and well-carbonated (if finely), maybe a little syrupy-sticky. Kinda drying, a little cleansing, startlingly refreshing. Alcohol presence if very subdued for 11.8% ABV: just a soft diffuse glow.
Oh, my gawds! It's a gusher! It's been a while since I've had this, and clearly it's settled nicely after ~6 months in the bottle. Other than the eruption when the cork was removed, of course: that was pretty much the opposite of settled. Crazily intense and giddily complex, beautifully well-balanced and integrated. Scarily drinkable. A gloriously over-the-top beer,m well worth the money and the patience. My fanboyism for Boulevard continues unabated. This beer is delicious as hell, and one day I'll buy more than one bottle of this at a time, when I see it.
