Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Heavy Seas Black Cannon

Pine and citrus—mainly grapefruit and lemon, hints of lime and orange—wrapped in chocolate and heavily-toasted dark bread. Grass and flowers in the background, and flecks of coffee. Starts quite bitter, finishes impressively dry, with a little bit of sweet in between.

Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A little bready chewiness, some resinous stickiness. Powerfully drying and impressively refreshing.

Spot-on for the style, as far as I can tell. Complex as heck, and remarkably intense for a table beer—even one on the strong-ish side. Drinkable as hell, nicely balanced and well-integrated. Goes well with nicely-seared red meat, smoky chiles. Hooray for drinking a great beer from a local brewer.
