Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Yule Tide
Caramel and toast, with molasses right alongside. Baking spices—lots of ginger, hints of allspice and cinnamon—woven in with grassy-floral bitterness evolving toward earthy. Rum a constant n the background.
Maybe a bit on the thick side, distinctly syrupy-sticky, but pretty decently carbonated. A little bit of a boozy glow, pretty subtle for 9% ABV. Eventually imposingly drying, managing to shift some toward refreshing.
A delicious spiced beer, perfect for a snowy evening late in the Winter Without and End. Comes across to me as though it would play well with jerk chicken: the rum and the ginger would find easy hooks, I'd think. Intense and complex, nicely integrated and surprisingly close to balanced; definitely what the brewery had in mind. It's impossible for me to deny that I'm a fan, of the brewery and the beer. Drinkable as heck.
