Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Brown Shugga'
Lots of citrus (mainly grapefruit, hints of orange and lime), with flowers, grass, pine woven in. Some toast and bread, hints of nuts, toffee, chocolate. Maybe a flicker of spice around the perimeter. Bitter, then some sweetness, then very dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Distinct juiciness, almost pulpy. A little resinous stickiness, especially around the finish. Scrubbing and cleansing and drying, surprisingly refreshing. Roughly no hint of the 9.9% ABV.
A delicious beer, happily playing in the interstices between and among a few different styles: brown ale, barleywine, IPA, maybe something Belgian thrown in. Intense and complex as hell, wonderfully well-balanced and integrated. Delicious and monstrously drinkable. There aren't many beers I buy every year; this is one.
