Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XONE
Interestingly, mostly musky and floral to start with, then pine and mostly-grapefruity citrus emerge; hints and threads of grass and tropical fruits around the edges. Just enough pale bread, caramel, and toast to keep the beer form falling on its hoppy little face. Finishes blisteringly dry.
Just on the light side of medium-bodied, pretty decently carbonated. Scrubbing, scouring; finally quite drying and nicely refreshing. The 8.1% ABV is distressingly well-hidden.
Yum! I've been a raving fan of Southern Tier and their beers from the moment of my first exposure, very early in my experience of craft beer, and this beer does nothing at all to change that. Crazily intense and complex, if giddily unbalanced; nicely integrated and amazingly drinkable. Southern Tier had just radically increased their brewing capacity when we were there last summer, and it looks to me as though they're putting that to good use.
