Tonight's beer: Three Taverns A Night in Brussels
Starts out with a big wad of bitterness—citrus (mainly grapefruit, a little lemon) woven with pine, flowers, muck, pine. Some pale bread and a little caramel —just enough to provide a counterpoint. A few scattered threads of spice. Bitter, then a little sweet; then dries out completely and quickly.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter, decently carbonated. Impressively drying, massively refreshing. Some resinous/syrupy stickiness, but pretty clean. Cleansing and refreshing. Roughly no boozy presence, even for the relatively light 7.5% ABV
A delicious and very drinkable Belgian-style IPA. Intense as hell and nicely intense, balanced (or at least poised) and integrated. Clearly the product of a brewery with a clue. The musky notes remind me a lot of Flying Dog's Raging Bitch; I have no idea whether that's in the yeast or the hops. Good stuff coming from Georgia.
