Westbrook IPA

Tonight's beer: Westbrook IPA

Westbrook IPA

Explosively citrussy: so much orange it almost comes across as juicy-sweet, with lemon, grapefruit, and lime woven densely in. Pine, melons and pineapples (and other tropical fruits); traces of musk, flowers, grass. A little bit of pale bread, overshadowed by all those hops.

Medium-bodied or maybe a bit lighter. Lots of resinous-syrupy stickiness, tending toward coating. Good amount of carbonation. Drying, scrubbing, and refreshing.

A delicious IPA, in the typical modern American style: hops, hops, hops, hops, hops, hops, hops, and hops, with some hops tossed, and just enough malt to throw the hops into stark relief. Obviously, not in the same *universe* as balanced, but deliriously intense and complex; obviously what the brewers intended—impressively well-integrated and drinkable as hell. Having tried and enjoyed this a couple times, I'm *very* interested in trying Westbrook's other beers. It's something else to look for on a trip to Georgia, I guess.
