Tonight's beer: Fort George North VII
Lots of bitterness, mostly floral and grassy with hints of pine and citrus. Dried/candied pale fruits—pears, apples, white grapes, nectarines—lurk. Pale bread and vanilla and maybe some spice hang around in the background. Wraps up bracingly dry.
Maybe a bit thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. A little syrupy stickiness, a bit chewy. Some vague boozy warmth and prickle, nothing untoward for 9% ABV. Finishes drying and refreshing, if not exactly anything like clean or cleansing.
A nice Belgian-style IPA, with bourbon nicely incorporated. Intense and complex, and nicely integrated; thoroughly tilted toward bitter, but impressively drinkable. Kinda supple and graceful, if not exactly deceptive. I haven't had anything else from this brewery, but I'll certainly try to keep them in mind when I make my occasional acquisitions from the Other Coast.
