Tonight's beer: Lancaster Hop Buggy

Lancaster Hop Buggy

Starts fruity-bready-sweet, then floral-grassy-piny bitterness emerges abruptly. Some citrus in the background, and toffee and nuts. Bitterness lasts well into the aftertaste, as the beer dries out underneath it. Slight flickers around the periphery of pepper and tart rye/wheat character.

Medium-bodied, a little soft and chewy, nicely carbonated. Gradually gently drying, impressively refreshing. Cleansing and scrubbing. A trace of stickiness around the finish.

A pretty impressive beer; it reminds me a lot of this brewery's erstwhile Amish Four Grain Pale Ale—aside from the theming, the malt bill is similarly complex. That said, there's decent bitterness, more than enough to provide balance. Nicely integrated, and plenty intense for 5.9% ABV. Pleasantly drinkable, and a beer that doubtless would go well with all sorts of food.
