Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Grand Arbor
Grass and flowers, pale bread, some pale fruit (apples, pears, white grapes; maybe apricots/peaches)—lots that could be sweet, but the overall impression is very dry. Hints of earth and bright spices around the perimeter. A little darkish sweetness emerges as the beer warms.
Light-bodied, highly carbonated. A vague and gentle trace of stickiness but mostly clean; cleansing and scrubbing and drying. Massively refreshing. Basically zero alcohol presence—no warning of the 8% ABV.
Oh, wow. I suppose it shouldn't be a big shock that Southern Tier have brewed a delicious saison, at least not to someone who loves Southern Tier's beers and adores saisons. Intense and complex, integrated and balanced. Definitely a beer to go with food. Not much of the maple syrup mentioned on the label, but a wonderful beer nonetheless.
