Heavy Seas Riptide

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Riptide

Heavy Seas Riptide

Lots of juicy bitterness to start: citrus (mainly grapefruit and lemon), flowers, pine, and grass. Bright spice and pepper, and zesty wheaty tartness right behind. Pale bread definitely a background presence, with maybe a dash of caramel. Bitter to start, dry by the end, with some momentary sweetness in between.

Surprisingly light-bodied for a 7.25% ABV IPA-ish beer, decently carbonated. Massively drying and refreshing, clean and cleansing. Distinctly smooth.

An amazingly drinkable beer, perfect for summer. Tons of intense, complex flavor, nicely balanced and integrated. A nifty mingling of two pretty disparate styles (witbier and American IPA) that is clearly exactly what the brewers intended. I'm a huge fan of Heavy Seas, and as long as they continue to make excellent beers like this that's not going to change. This beer is delicious.
