Tonight's beer: New Holland Bourbon Barrel Dragon's Milk (2013)
Dark bread and caramel up-front, with some chocolate and some vanilla filling in the gaps. Hints of coffee and smoke, peat, earth, grass. Maybe some distant butter. Mostly sweet from start to finish; dries out a very little bit, eventually.
Kinda thin for a big stout, mildly but adequately carbonated. Syrupy-sticky. Not much hint of the 10% ABV.
A dessert beer. Definitely a dessert beer. Nothing wrong with that, of course. Plenty sweet. Decently complex and intense, but not int he same universe as balanced. A beer to sip for a while, instead of dessert of coffee. Not much hint of the bourbon from the barrels; pretty supple and subtle.
