Santa Fe Black IPA

Tonight's beer: Santa Fe Black IPA

Santa Fe Black IPA

Chocolate and coffee tangled up in grapefruit and pine; flowers and grass further back in the weave. Caramel, nuts, toffee flickering around the perimeter. Bittersweet throughout, evolves gradually to bracingly dry.

Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated; a little sticky, a little chewy. Roasty-dry, refreshing; scrubbing and cleansing on the back end.

A very nice Black IPA, from a brewery whose beers I hadn't even seen in person until maybe a week ago. It's a helluvan introduction. Tons of flavor, here: intense and complex, but deftly poised and remarkably well-integrated. Astonishingly drinkable; at 7.1% ABV, a bit on the dangerous side. Graceful and light on its feet.
