Tonight's beer: Sound Dubbel Entendre
Caramel and toast, dried/candied fruits—mostly cherries and plums. Toffee and chocolate in the background, with grace notes of leather, smoke, tobacco, and dark spice (mainly cloves). Dries out rapidly and just about completely on flickers of earthy-grassy bitterness. Dim hints of brandy and rum.
Light-bodied, with lots of fine carbonation. A little stickiness through the middle, but finishes dry, cleansing, refreshing. Remarkably little hint of the 8% ABV.
Yum! I haven't had a dubbel for a while, which is odd, as much as I love the style. Delicious and devastatingly drinkable: Lots of intense and complex flavor, precisely balanced and nicely integrated. A bit big for the style, but otherwise pretty spot-on for the style; graceful and supple and sneaky-subtle.
