Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XONE
Musk and flowers, pine and citrus; melons and grass and tropical fruits more in the background. A solid bready structure, with grace notes of caramel; a solid counterpoint. Starts out bittersweet, dries out quickly and thoroughly.
Medium-bodied, or a bit lighter, and nicely carbonated. A bit of resinous stickiness, but mostly clean; cleansing, drying, and immensely refreshing. 8.1% ABV very well-hidden.
A very impressive Double IPA, more so for having one malt and one variety (Mosaic) of hops. Tons of complex and intense flavors, mostly hops character, nicely balanced against simple but effective malts. Beautifully well-integrated. Delicious from start to finish ,and massively drinkable. I don't make any secret of my admiration and affection for Southern Tier, but even all that aside this is a very, *very* nice beer.
