Stone Matt's Burning Rosids

Tonight's beer: Stone Matt's Burning Rosids

Stone Matt's Burning Rosids

Floral-grassy bitterness on pale bread, backed by pale dried/candied fruits—pears, white grapes, peaches, apricots, apples. Pale citrus, bright spice, smoke in the distance. Bitter, then a little sweet, then quickly and thoroughly dry.

Medium-bodied, some gentle fine carbonation. Some booze present, but carried gracefully and subtly. A bit of syrupy stickiness around the finish, eventually drying and kinda refreshing.

Pretty impressive: a saison that's played remarkably straight, with just a kiss of smoke. Nicely balanced and integrated, appropriately intense and complex; sneakily boozy and remarkably drinkable. By Stone's standards, not a particularly crazy beer, aside from smoked malts in a saison. A suitable memorial.
