Tonight's beer: Tröegs La Grave
Pale fruits—dried and candied apples, pears; some golden raisins—backed by some pale bread and a little caramel. Grassy-floral-herbal bitterness right behind. Maybe a flicker of baking spice in the distance. Dry to start, then bittersweet, then dry again.
A little lighter than medium-bodied, extensively and explosively carbonated but still notably smooth. Drying and cleansing, immensely refreshing; basically zero alcohol presence.
A delicious and massively drinkable tripel, remarkably true to style. Complex and intense, balanced and integrated. Deceptive and graceful and supple and subtle. Almost certainly a beer that would pair beautifully with lots of foods. I wouldn't necessarily have expected Tröegs to brew so spot-on a tripel, but they did; I'm not really all that surprised. Kudos to them.
