Weyerbacher Insanity

Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Insanity

Weyerbacher Insanity

Caramel-toasty bread, with toffee/nuts and dried fruit and spice and vanilla layered and woven in. Background impressions of earth, grass, peat, smoke. Dim hints of butter, but that could be from the bourbon barrels (or an artifact of a known interaction between deep caramel and my palate) and doesn't seem off at all. Distinctly whiskey-ish aftertaste. Starts kinda sweet; dries out some, eventually.

Thick and chewy, a bit dense and a bit sticky, lightly carbonated. Gently drying, subtly warming. Gracefully boozy, supple and strong. Pretty smooth.

If I'm reading the dates stamped on the bottle right, this is a bit over a year old, and it's come through that extra time in the bottle nicely. Still plenty intense and very complex, if anything better integrated (though maybe more slanted toward malty-sweet). Strong enough at 11.1% ABV that it pretty much has to be a sipping beer, but a very drinkable one. I have an unpleasant suspicion that we've missed this year's batch. Oh comma well.
