Tonight's beer: Yards General Washington's Tavern Porter
Dark bread, caramel, molasses/brown sugar; hints of toast, nuts/toffee, coffee/chocolate. Earthy-grassy-peaty-smoky impressions flicker around the periphery. Possible hints of baking spice—mainly wolves and allspice—and dried/candied fruits.Starts very sweet, evolves gradually toward bitter and kinda dry.
Kinda thick and heavy, decently carbonated. Some chewiness and some stickiness. Softly drying, impressively quenching and refreshing.
A delicious and startlingly drinkable porter. Probably too big (7% ABV) to session—at least for long—but ti's a very more-ish beer. Lots of intense and complex flavor, beautifully integrated if distinctly tipped toward malty and sweet. Supple and graceful. I just got around to trying some stuff from Yards (this, and a mix-pack we acquired for social/hosting purposes) and I've been pleased and impressed all around, so far.
